Common Questions

Questions we always get asked!

How do Bumguns work?

Bumguns use the same fresh water supply that feeds your bathroom. The sprayer attaches to your plumbing, and you control the pressure by turning the lever. This creates a refreshing stream of water for you to clean your bits.

Think of it as a mini-shower for your most sensitive regions!

While toilet paper can sometimes smear or chafe, the Bumgun gently washes away what you’ve left behind. We recommend dabbing dry with a reusable bum towel afterward for that ultimate fresh-out-of-the-shower feeling. It’s a total game-changer for personal hygiene.

Is the Bumgun sanitary? (Cleaner than toilet paper?)

Absolutely! We like to say it’s the most hygienic way to clean up without actually hopping in the shower.

Most people find that once they’ve experienced the "water-wash" clean, they can never imagine going back to just toilet paper.

It’s all about feeling truly fresh.

What is the difference between a Bumgun and a bidet?

They both have the same goal: a cleaner you! A traditional bidet is a separate porcelain fixture sat next to your toilet.

A Bumgun is a handheld sprayer that connects to your existing plumbing. It gives you the same fresh-water clean as a standalone bidet but takes up zero extra floor space and gives you much more control over the aim!

Can I use this to clean my "bits"?

Yes! The water comes from your fresh water supply, making it perfect for personal cleaning.

Many of our customers find the Bumgun and our soft bum towels a perfect addition to their pre- and post-intimacy hygiene routine.

It’s gentle, effective, and leaves you feeling confident. Bumguns are also used for cleaning reusable nappies and pets!

I’ve been using wet wipes; do they do the same job?

Wet wipes might feel like a step up from paper, but they often just move things around—and they aren't great for the planet.

Even "flushable" wipes are a major cause of sewer blockages in the UK (the famous "fatbergs"), costing millions in repairs.

Plus, many contain plastics and harsh chemicals. Switching to a Bumgun is a huge win for your booty, your plumbing, and the environment!

Do Bumguns only spray cold water?

By default, the Bumgun connects to your cold water line. Most users find this "cool splash" incredibly refreshing and wake-up-worthy!

However, if you prefer a spa-like warm experience, you can install a thermostatic mixing valve to blend hot and cold water.

If you’re dreaming of a warm wash, get in touch and we can help you figure out the best setup for your bathroom.

If something breaks, will you replace it?

We take great pride in the quality of our Bumguns. If you ever run into a hiccup or something doesn't feel right, please reach out to us.

We’re a friendly bunch and will do everything we can to get you back to your fresh-clean self as quickly as possible.

Will I still need to use toilet paper?

The pressurised stream is very effective at doing the heavy lifting! Most of our customers use a small amount of paper just to pat dry and "check the work."

Once you become a Bumgun pro, many people switch entirely to reusable bum towels or a quick "shake dry."

How do I install my Bumgun?

While the Bumgun itself is a simple piece of kit, installing it in the UK requires a few specific steps to stay on the right side of water regulations.

Because a Type AB break tank is required to keep your water supply safe, we recommend having a friendly, registered plumber handle the setup.

They’ll ensure the plumbing is perfect, leaving you with nothing to do but enjoy the fresh results! Please look at the Compliance, Installation and use page for more info.

Will the Bumgun fit my toilet?

The Bumgun is designed to be versatile! In a standard UK home, the system connects to the water supply that feeds your toilet.

If your toilet is a "back-to-wall" style with hidden piping, the connection might be a little more tucked away.

Don't worry, though—if you're unsure, just snap a photo of your toilet setup and send it to us on WhatsApp.

We’re happy to take a look and guide you on the best way to get your Bumgun up and running.

Is it easy to install and uninstall?

While the actual Bumgun handset and hose are a breeze to attach, UK regulations require a specific setup (including a break tank) to keep our water supply safe.

Because of this, we always recommend having a registered plumber handle the initial installation.

They’ll have the tools—usually just an adjustable spanner and a bit of know-how—to ensure everything is "fail-safe" and compliant. If you ever move home, the Bumgun itself is very easy to take with you, leaving everything just as it was for the next person!

Why is the UK requirement for a "Break Tank" so strict?

It all comes down to how different risks are classified. In the UK, water risks are graded from 1 to 5. Because a bidet spray is used near a toilet, it is classified as Fluid Category 5—the highest risk level.

This isn't about the quality of the sprayer itself, but rather the potential for the spray head to come into contact with the water in the toilet bowl.

To keep the public water supply perfectly clear, the UK requires a physical "air gap" (provided by a break tank) rather than just a valve.

What is the actual risk of "back-flow"?

Back-flow is a very rare event, but the regulations are designed to be "fail-safe." For it to happen, two things would have to occur at the exact same time:

Submergence: The spray head would need to be left inside the toilet bowl, below the water line.

Pressure Drop: A major event, like a burst water main in your street, would need to cause a sudden drop in pressure, creating a "siphon" effect. While this combination is statistically unlikely, UK regulators prioritise protecting the water supply from even the smallest risk of contamination.

Why is an outdoor tap treated differently (Category 4)?

An outdoor garden tap is classified as Fluid Category 4.

Because garden water is considered less hazardous than the contents of a toilet, the law allows for a double check valve there.

While it might seem a bit inconsistent, the law is quite specific: once a device is associated with a toilet, it moves into Category 5, Which requires the higher protection of a break tank.

Can I just use a non-return valve and be careful?

In many countries, a high-quality non-return valve combined with careful use is the standard.

However, UK law doesn't take "careful use" into account. The regulations require the plumbing itself to be mechanically "fail-safe."

This means that even if someone were to leave the spray head in the bowl, a physical break tank (Type AB Air Gap) would still prevent any water from ever moving backward into the mains.

What is your recommendation for a smooth installation?

We want you to enjoy your Bumguns with total peace of mind. To be 100% compliant with UK law and avoid any issues with your local water company, we recommend ensuring your installer uses a Fluid Category 5 compliant break tank and pump set.

This ensures your installation is legal, safe, and built to last.
